FRANKLIN TWP. — Gaige and Gavin Garcia contributed seven scores in Southern Columbia’s 62-7 victory over Jersey Shore on Friday night.
The Garcia brothers once again carried the Tigers to a victory. Gaige Garcia carried the ball 13 times for 192 yards and three scores on the ground, while Gavin Garcia added 118 of his own rushing yards and added a score.
“We were running hard and things were just clicking on all cylinders,” Gaige Garcia said.
They ultimately combined to score seven touchdowns in Southern’s route of Jersey Shore.
The Tigers introduced a new left tackle in Seth Pletcher but the offense didn’t miss a beat. Pletcher had been previously ruled ineligible on a transfer until earlier this week when his appealed was heard and overturned.
Even with the new starters on the offensive line, the Tigers’ offense were able to get their offense going early.
“The offense started clicking, the offensive line were getting their blocks,” Gaige Garcia said.
The younger Garcia brother has emerged as a key to the Tigers’ offense and he’s doing his part to help his team and his brother.
Gavin Garcia has complimented his brother’s tough running style with a speedier version that’s able to easily weave in and out of the defense.
“I know if he gets the ball I’m going to do my best to block and get him in the end zone and I know he’s going to the same for me,” Gavin Garcia said.
The Tigers’ defense stifled the Bulldogs’ offense only allowing 142 total yards of offense.
Southern Columbia didn’t allow the Bulldogs to score until the fourth quarter when the game was clearly out of hand.
As a whole, the Tigers outgained the Bulldogs’ offense 615-142 and more than doubled the Bulldogs’ first downs 24 to 10.
The Tigers mounted pressure on Jersey Shore consistently and dind’t allow them to get their passing game on track. The Bulldogs ended the night completing just 12 of their 35 passing attempts. Two key players on defense were Cal Haladay and Max Tillett.
Haladay pressured the quarterback consistently and added a sack to his stat sheet. Tillet broke up a pair of passes and Lear Quinton added one of his own.
The Tigers forced three fumbles and recovered one.
