HERSHEY — Another quarterfinal, another Southern victory. First the Tigers faced adversity, then they showed grit, rallying after losing the first two of three matches by fall before ending the afternoon with a 51-21 victory over Brookville.

Preston Zachman opened the match with a pin at 220, however, the next two matches ended in surprise pins by Colby Whitehall and Owen Reinsel to give Brookville a 12-6 lead.

Freshman Kole Biscoe started his match battling then gained the upper hand on points, before eventually earning the fall to tie it up for the Tigers.

Yet, it wasn’t the falls the stole the show for the Tigers squad that seeks to rebound from a finals loss a year ago; it was the middleweights that came up big to secure the Tigers’ quarterfinal victory.

Garrett Krebs was taken down early but persevered to keep the match close. It allowed Krebs to secured a takedown as time expired, and after a brief delay, was finally awarded crucial two points to give him and the Tigers a much-needed win.

Krebs credited the composure he showed from his experience he gained at the same competition last year in Hershey.

Edmondson picked up a 12-0 major-decision win to give the Tigers a 19-15 lead and set up Michael Miner for a big match a 138 pounds, where he secured a fall to extend the Tigers’ lead to 25-15.

It was part of a run where the Tigers earned four consecutive wins by either fall or technical fall.

"I felt a bit of senior pride there at the end," Miner said after his pin gave Southern a 25-15 lead, one it wouldn't relinquish.

Gavin Garcia’s pin set the Tigers up for one more in a row, this time with senior Shane Miller.

“Miller is starting to find his niche a little bit ... he's dangerous,” head coach Jerry Marks said. “He's a dangerous wrestler.”

While standing across from his oponent, Shane Miller lulled his foe into a weak position then used his leverage to flip Brookville’s Jacob Cable vertically, putting him onto his back and finishing it with a pin.

Cade Linn tried to follow it up with another pin for Southern but was forced to settle for a technical fall.

In total, the Tigers finished with five pins, and earned bonus points in seven matches in all.
