FRANKLIN TWP — Stone Hollenbach led Southern Columbia with three touchdown passes on three key fourth-and-long situations.
Hollenbach threw three beautiful touchdown passes including two to receiver Julian Fleming on impressive fade passes on fourth down, despite being pressured for most of the game. As good as the catches were that Fleming made, Hollenbach put the two passes right on the money over two defenders.
Mount Carmel sacked Hollenbach three times.
"You've seen what he's done through his whole career here, we've built a lot of chemistry here,” Fleming said. “He's broken almost every passing record here and you know, I've broken all the passing records and I can't thank him enough for making the move and coming here and putting in all the work to be successful.”
Mount Carmel's pass defense played hard all game, but couldn't get a stop when they needed it the most. It held Hollenbach to only 119 yards passing but he made the big throws when it mattered most.
The first touchdown came on a 27-yard strike to Fleming on fourth-and-13 to take a 7-0 lead. The throw was thrown perfectly into Fleming's hands as he tiptoed in bounds for the touchdown.
"We knew, based on last game that we would have success throwing the football, we wanted to get the run game going and I think we did that,” Hollenbach said. “I just have great athletes, I mean two out of three of my touchdowns I just threw up to the corner and let Julian (Fleming) go get them."
The second touchdown came on a back shoulder pass to receiver Preston Zachman on a fourth-and-9 at the end of the first quarter.
"With Preston's (touchdown reception) I kind of threw that one back shoulder a little bit and we have such good chemistry to the point where we know what each other is thinking," Hollenbach said."
The last touchdown for Hollenbach, much like the first one, came on a fade to the end zone to Fleming as Hollenbach dropped it in over Mount Carmel corner Avery Demko to give the Tigers a 25-8 lead and virtually wrap the game up for Southern. This pass came on a key 4th and 10 only up 19-8.
"Without a good quarterback ya know, Julian wouldn't have the kind of receptions he has and without a good receiver I wouldn't have the yards or touchdowns that I have. We definitely work well together and we have good guys at every position," Hollenbach said.
